The driver in a single car crash on I-16 was flown by Air Evac helicopter Thursday morning, April 29th to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.

Bulloch County 911 dispatched Bulloch County EMS, Rescue, Fire and Sheriff's departments and Georgia State Patrol to a single vehicle accident on I-16 Westbound around mile marker 127 around 8 am.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail and then entered the trees on the side of the interstate. Bulloch County Rescue had to extricate the driver from the vehicle. Bulloch EMS requested a helicopter to the scene to transport the female driver of the car to Memorial Medical Center (MMC) in Savannah. Memorial is the only level one trauma center in our area.

Air Evac responded to a landing zone set up by Bulloch Fire and Sheriff's department in a grassy area near highway 67 off of highway 46 just a few miles from the accident. This was just a few miles from the accident scene.

This prevented public safety from having to shut down I-16 to land the helicopter at the scene.

Traffic was blocked for approximately 30 minutes on highway 46 while the patient was loaded into the helicopter.

The name or condition of the driver is unknown. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.
