Debbie Edenfield, owner of Deb-Bee’s Creations, has answered the call in our community to lead the effort in getting critically needed masks made for our healthcare workers.
She is donating fabric from her warehouse that meets the requirements for the mask which is 100% cotton and tight woven. Debbie began this effort last week and promoted it on social media and through the Statesboro Herald. From that, volunteers have already made 117 masks that they have given to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Similar projects are going on throughout the country and have been a huge help with hospitals struggling with supplies. Medical Professionals can put these mask over their N95 mask so they can get more use out of the N95’s, which are in short supply.
Today they also gave out over 100 yards and have volunteers working on more.
Debbie had a volunteer from Georgia Southern University make detailed instructions and a pattern, which you can access here.
Donny Rushing with Coastal Canvas saw her effort online and offered to put the pattern piece on his cutting machine. They had 4 bolts delivered to him on Tuesday morning and he was able to cut enough for approximately 450 masks.

Debbie plans to continue to do these as long as there is a need! After supplying the Hospital, the masks will then go to our doctors offices, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, high risk individuals and maybe even other communities if the need continues.
At this point, they need more volunteers and still have a shortage on elastic . Anyone that can sew can help, and If you can’t sew but want to contribute, you can help by cutting out patterns.
Debbie is very sensitive to social distancing. She has a system in place where citizens who have made the masks drop them off in a container at her shop. Then, a representative from the Hospital will pick the masks up and sanitize them before they are taken into the Hospital. They ask that people DO NOT drop masks off at the Hospital.
Debbie actually closed her business last week and has dedicated her and her staff’s time to this project.
