Bulloch VOAD and other non profit agencies are coming together to help feed others and meet the food insecurity needs during this time of uncertainty.  The first distribution was on Monday through Christian Social Ministries.  They are prepared to feed 500 per week and have plenty of inventory at this time.

Today’s Food Distribution

Today, Second Harvest Food Bank out of Savannah hosted a mobile pantry food drop at City of David Church in Statesboro.  The response was so overwhelming that traffic backed up throughout downtown and required Statesboro Police Department assistance.

Also today, Crossroads Community Church held their soup kitchen and served 500 with to go meals that were picked up and delivered.

Bulloch Schools Delivering Food Weekdays

The Bulloch County Schools began distributing breakfast and lunch on Tuesday.  On Tuesday they served 975 students.  On Wednesday the served 1,117 and today they served 1,341 students at 34 stops throughout the county.  There are approximately 6,500 student in the Bulloch County School system that are eligible for free or assisted meals.  They are working hard to increase the numbers and appreciate citizens in helping spread the word.  One area of concern is in the Hispanic Communities where the children are afraid to come out of their houses to get the food.

Message for the Hispanic Community

Today we recorded a message with Pastor Santiago from Crossroads Community Church and have shared on social media.  Hopefully this will encourage others to share and spread the word.  Go here for a full list of where the food bus stops will be daily.  The schools plan to continue this Monday through Friday until students return to school.

Saturday Free Food Opportunities

The next opportunity will be on Saturday from 12 pm to 1 pm at the Statesboro Food Bank, operated by First United Methodist Church.  They will be offering to go meals and additional food supplements.  Citizens will get meals at the rear of the church.

Also on Saturday, Compassion Christian Church, 831 Cawana Drive will distribute food from 9 AM – 11 AM
