Tormenta FC’s two braces beat out the South Carolina United Bantams

South Georgia Tormenta FC’s W League secured a victory against the South Carolina United Bantams with a 5-0 score on Tuesday, June 11 at Tormenta Stadium. Tormenta’s Elis Nemtsov and Courtney Chochol each scored a brace during the match to command a win.

Tormenta FC’s W league team maintained its streak of never losing a match against the Bantams. Keeper Jenna Moran preserved a clean sheet, skillfully shutting down any attempted advances from the Bantams to secure the lead.

Just a moment after kickoff, Smith Cathey wrangled her way past a flurry of defenders, taking a shot on goal, which was saved by the keeper. On the rebound, Courtney Chochol sent the ball into the net, marking her third goal of the season.

After the evening’s first goal, Tormenta continued pressing up the left wing of the pitch. Applying stints of high pressure kept the Bantams at bay, stomping out any attempts at attacking plays.

In the 19th minute, Momo Nakao threaded a pass into the penalty area to Elis Nemtsov, who shot the ball just wide of the keeper and into the net.

Momo Nakao rejoined the Ibises for this match after playing for Streetball FC Canada in the TST Women's Tournament. Nakao scored one goal and provided one assist while away.

After a stretch of defensive plays, Tormenta FC’s Melanie Mikoy fired a cross to Elis Nemtsov, who blasted the ball into the goal for her second brace of the 2024 campaign.

Even as the Bantams searched for a goal, South Georgia forced key turnovers to maintain possession of the ball. During added time in the first half, Chochol scored her second goal of the evening, marking her first brace of the 2024 season, with an assist from Nakao

Progressing into the second half, the Bantams saw multiple scoring opportunities with a free kick and corner kick coming back-to-back, but were unable to convert any attempts, as Tormenta’s backline shook any attempted shot on goal.

At the midway point of the second half, Smith Cathey launched a ball from just outside of the box past the clutches of the keeper, giving South Georgia a resounding 5-0 lead. This goal marked the last of the evening, despite dynamic plays from both sides.

With a quick turnaround, Tormenta FC’s W League takes the pitch again on Thursday, June 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina against the Charlotte Eagles. Fans can tune in to this match via Sports Engine
