GS Eagles: Men’s golf places eighth at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

Georgia Southern men's golf shot under par in the final two rounds to finish eighth at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational Sunday at Forest Hills Golf Club.

No. 12 Florida (-39) won the event by 12 strokes over No. 6 Illinois. Georgia Southern (+4) finished three strokes ahead of tournament host Augusta (+7). The field features eight teams in the top-50 in the country and six in the top-25, including No. 9 Texas, the defending national champion, which finished sixth (-13).

Mason Williams shot 69-73-72 to finish 2-under and tie for 21st. Wilson Andress tied for 28th after posting an even-par 74-69-73.

Williams rolled in five birdies to lead the Eagles with a 69 in the first round. Andress eagled the 601-yard, par-5 11th and added tree birdies to post a 69 in the second round. Luke Koenig made four birdies and played his final six holes 2-under to lead the team with a 70 in the third round.

Georgia Southern matched the tournament lead with three eagles on the weekend and ranked second with 172 pars. The Eagles were tied for third in par-3 scoring.
