Blistering Start Leads Eagles To Record-Tying 111-67 Win At Chicago State

CHICAGO - Georgia Southern women's basketball started the game with a 37-8 run en route to a record-tying 111-67 victory over host Chicago State on Monday afternoon in Chicago.

The Eagles (7-2) tied a school record for the most points scored in a road game with their fifth straight win. Georgia Southern also scored 111 points in a 111-91 win at Mercer on Feb. 20, 1986. Chicago State fell to 0-16 on the season with the loss.

The Eagles scored 17 points off of turnovers in the opening frame and hit 14 of 26 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws en route to the 37-point period. Georgia Southern added 26 points in the second quarter to take a 63-28 lead into the break.

Georgia Southern opened the second half on an 8-2 run en route to a 32-point quarter and never looked back in breaking the century mark for the second time this season and eighth time over the last four seasons.

Terren Ward led all scorers on the day with 26 points to go with 12 rebounds, her fifth straight double-double. Torrion Starks added 12 points and Eden Johnson chipped in 11. Tae'lor Willard led a trio of Cougars in double figures with 18 points.

Freshman Kanija Daniel set career highs in points with nine, rebounds with five and steals with three, adding a pair of assists on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Stat of the Game
The Eagles recorded 55 rebounds in the contest and had six different players record at least five rebounds, led by Ward's 12 boards. Eden Johnson, Simone James, Daniel, Shy Booker and Diamond Stokes - playing in front of her hometown Chicago crowd - all had five boards on the night.

Next Up
The Eagles return to Hanner to host Charleston Southern on Thursday, December 14, for its annual Kids Field Trip Day game at 11 a.m. More than 2,000 elementary and middle school students from Bulloch County and the surrounding areas are expected for the contest.
