Rosa Hunter Tuck was born on April 22, 1943, to the late John Willie and Lillian Johnson Hunter. She was the fifth of nine children.
Rosa received her formal education in the Bulloch County School System.
She was married to the late Emmitt B. “Hambone” Calloway and to this union two daughters were born, Georgia Calloway and Carolyn Williams.
Rosa started her Christian journey at an early age at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia. She later joined the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church Under the leadership of the late Roosevelt Tart, where she was one of the founding members of the church choir. She served faithfully until her health began to fail.
Rosa was an amazing cook and loved to practice her skills as a beautician for her family and friends. When she relocated to Zion with her cousins Margie and Curtis Lee, she started a career at the V.A. Hospital where she was employed for over thirty years. She then met and married Johnnie Tuck. After her retirement she began to be a loving grandmother to her grandchildren which were her heart. She will always be known as “Grannie” to the youth she encountered in the community. Rosa Loved her family very much.
Those left to cherish her memories and legacy of love are, her two daughters, Georgia Calloway of Zion, IL and Carolyn Williams of Waukegan, IL; three adopted grandchildren, Sharonda Calloway, Vern and Ronald Wright; seven grandchildren, Veronica Wright, Nickolas Calloway, Josh Calloway, Voicey Corbin, Lawanda Corbin, Fracey Corbin and Jasmine Simmons; twenty great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, her siblings, Lee Watts (Catherine) Hunter, John Willie (Petronia) Hunter, Jr., and Rodie Hunter, all of Statesboro, GA; three sisters-in-law, a special friend, Randolph Darden, a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 3109 Gilead Avenue, Zion, IL. with Pastor John McBride, Officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M.
