August 9, 1953 - March 23, 2025
Dixon Owen Brant, 71, passed away on March 23, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on August 9, 1953, in Sylvania, Georgia, Dixon lived a life rooted in love for family, loyalty to friends, and a deep connection to his community.
A proud graduate of Screven County High School in the Class of 1971, Dixon went on to pursue his calling at Gupton Jones Mortuary School before the end of the decade. His education laid the foundation for a life spent supporting others through some of their most difficult moments—a role he embraced with compassion and quiet strength.
Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Helen Brant, and his brother Eldon Brant.
He is survived by his only son Zachary Brant and daughter-in-law Tara Brant. In addition to his immediate family, Dixon leaves behind countless found family and friends who were drawn to his warmth, humor, and unwavering presence.
Those who knew Dixon will remember him as a deeply loving father and a fierce friend. He had a gift for bringing levity into any room with a well-timed sarcastic joke or a knowing grin that could soften even the hardest days. He took great pride in seeing the people he loved happy and never missed an opportunity to show up—whether it was for holidays, big UGA games, or simply because too much time had passed since the last visit.
A lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Dixon left this world as a back-to-back National Champion—an honor that brought him no small amount of joy. His passion for football was matched only by his love of seafood; no matter where he traveled across the country, he could always be counted on to seek out a fried shrimp basket. But above all else, Dixon cherished time spent with those he loved most.
A graveside service honoring Dixon’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Screven County Memorial Cemetery located at 810 E Ogeechee St., Sylvania, GA 30467. In the event of rain, services will be moved indoors to Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home - Screven Chapel at 202 Ennis St., Sylvania, GA 30467.
