Alice Marie Holmes Johnson, age 90, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Southern Manor at Candler. She was born on December 31, 1934, to the late Emern and Viola Holmes in Eva, Alabama. She attended school in Eva and graduated from Eva Highschool in 1952. On June 7, 1957, Alice married the love of her life, Charles B. “Boyd” Johnson. In 1967, they moved to Atlanta where they resided for seventeen years before moving to Franklin, Tennessee where they lived for fourteen years. In 1998, they settled in Statesboro where they have been longtime members of Statesboro First Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. Alice loved gardening and for thirteen years she maintained the flowers at Statesboro First Baptist Church. She enjoyed oil painting and shared her talent with others by teaching painting classes at the Honey Bowen Building for several years.
Survivors include her husband of sixty seven years, Charles B. “Boyd” Johnson of Statesboro, her daughter, Sheri (Matt) Broom of Savannah; her son, David (Lauren) Johnson of Chandler, Arizona; three grandchildren, Savannah (Jared) Reheis, Heidi Johnson, and Weston Johnson of Mesa, Arizona; one great grandson, Theo Reheis; three sisters, Judy Fortenberry, Cathy Turner, and Sandy McCleskey; one brother, John Holmes, all of Eva, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025 at Statesboro First Baptist Church with Dr. John Waters and Dr. Earl Craig officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service.
