The Independence Fund, in partnership with Kappa Alpha Order – Gamma Alpha, is proud to present two US Army Veterans with an all-terrain trackchairs on Saturday, November 16, at the Georgia Southern University vs Troy University Football game.
The Delta Theta chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order at Georgia Southern University raised enough funds to donate two trackchairs to deserving Veterans. Through their fundraising efforts with Operation K.A.R.E., they raised approximately $50,000.
“It is a pleasure to work with Kappa Alpha Order to provide all-terrain trackchairs,” said Chief Operating Officer of The Independence Fund, Clark Pennington. “Chapters across the country work all year to help us provide these chairs or very deserving heroes.”
Since 2016, the Kappa Alpha Order has made it their mission to fundraise money to order trackchairs and present them to deserving Veterans throughout the nation.
During this presentation, US Army Veterans Kenneth Sheets and Chad Krantz Jr. Will each receive their much-needed trackchairs from the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order and be honored on the Football field.
Krantz served for 3 years and 10 months and experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Eventually, his TBI would lead to mobility issues as he experiences vision loss, vertigo, severe migraines, seizures, weakness, and muscle loss.
“It’s organizations like The Independence Fund that change the outlook on life for Veterans that are struggling to keep hope and keep moving forward,” said Krantz “It is a very hard place to be, and unfortunately some don’t make it out.”
Sheets served for 20 years and 3 months and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). After a failed suicide attempt, he was left paralyzed. With an all-terrain trackchair from The Independence Fund, he hopes to return to the activities he loves, such as saltwater fishing, shooting, and outdoor sports.
The Independence Fund’s hallmark Mobility program started in 2007 and continues to restore independence to those suffering the devastating effects of service-connected loss of mobility. Kappa Alpha Order’s Operation K.A.R.E. program is responsible for several trackchair presentations each year.
There remains a persistent need among the wounded, ill, and injured servicemembers and Veterans for these devices. The Independence Fund’s Mobility program is open to Veterans of all eras who have undergone a severe loss of mobility from a service-connected catastrophic injury or illness.
