Statesboro resident in critical condition after early morning house fire

A Statesboro resident is in critical condition following a house fire early Tuesday morning, October 15, 2024, in the 200 block of North Main Street. Emergency crews were dispatched at 4:49 a.m. by Bulloch County 911, prompting a response from both Statesboro Fire and Bulloch County Fire departments.

When the first fire engine arrived on the scene, firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the home and received reports that one person may still be inside. Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive attack on the fire while conducting an interior search. During the search, they discovered an unresponsive female inside the home.

Bulloch County paramedics, who were on standby as a precaution, quickly provided urgent medical care before transporting the woman to East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) in critical condition.

Firefighters managed to control the blaze within minutes of their arrival, but the home sustained significant damage from fire, smoke, and water.

North Main Street between Northside Drive and Pretorious Street remains closed to traffic at the time of this story and may experience partial closures throughout the morning as crews continue overhauling the structure and ensuring all hot spots are fully extinguished. Commuters are advised to find alternate routes.

Investigators from the Statesboro Fire Department are conducting a routine investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
