The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), in partnership with the Statesboro-Bulloch Remembrance Coalition is pleased to announce the launch of the Racial Justice Essay Contest.
Students are asked to examine the history of a topic of racial injustice and to discuss its legacy today. Essays should explore their topic using a specific historical event, explore how injustice persists, and imagine solutions for a future free from racial injustice. Students are encouraged to reflect on how the topic impacts their own lives and communities.
Two informational sessions will be held at the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library in the Activities Room at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, February 13 and Monday, March 11. At the informational meetings, attendees will learn more about resources available to support their research and a Writing Mentor program which pairs interested students with a mentor who will provide individualized support.
Students who excel in the contest will have the chance to win scholarships of up to $5,000.00. All participants will be invited to an awards ceremony sponsored by the Statesboro-Bulloch County Remembrance Coalition and the Equal Justice Initiative.
