Students and instructors in the Ogeechee Technical College Veterinary Technician program recently traveled to Athens to attend a large animal skills lab.
“Traveling to Athens for this skills lab was an excellent opportunity for our students to gain an amazing educational experience while training with the best equipment, facility, and trainers,” said Deidre Tillman, Veterinary Technology Instructor. “While we love our cats and dogs, our Vet Tech program gives limitless possibilities in fields like large animal medicine, laboratory medicine, and exotics medicine.”
As an accreditation requirement, students in OTC’s Vet Tech program are required to obtain competency in several hands-on large animal skills. These requirements include skills like venipuncture (drawing blood), giving oral medications and injections, bandaging limbs and tails, proper restraint techniques, and taking radiographs.
