The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library will host a winter Seed & Plant Swap on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 5:30-6:30pm at the library. They are inviting home gardeners to bring any extra seeds or plants they may have to swap and share with others.
The library is host to a local seed library, which carries a variety of vegetable and flower seeds for patrons to take home for free. Patrons may also choose to leave extra seeds for the seed library during the swap.
Caroline Johnson, Library Manager, started the Seed Library in the the spring of 2023. She shares, “Many libraries have seed libraries, and it was a popular request. I was able to get it started with the help of our Friends of the Library, including the late George Brannen.”
The seed library runs on an honor system that a patron take only one to two packets per visit. No library card is required. Johnson says they purchase seeds and accept labeled seeds for donation, as well.
The Seed Library is open during normal library hours, as long as seeds are available. The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library is located at 124 S. Main Street in Statesboro and is open Monday-Thursday from 8am-7pm and Friday-Saturday from 9am-6pm.
