For several years now, AgSouth in Statesboro has partnered with local home health agencies and nursing homes to provide Christmas gifts for less fortunate senior citizens in our community. While names are kept confidential, seniors and their caregivers are able to provide their personal Christmas wishes, and AgSouth provides a tree with ornament tags of those wishes that community members can select and purchase.
Items requested typically include shower chairs, bedside toilets, pajamas, rolling walkers, adult diapers, books, space heaters, blankets, and personal hygiene items. This year, AgSouth is also asking for general donations of blankets, small space heaters, walking canes, walkers, and adult diapers in size women's medium, large, and XL.
Gift-givers are asked to purchase these items and place them in a gift bag (not wrapped) with the ornament tag attached. Gifts should be dropped off at AgSouth by December 6 so that the staff can deliver them to the seniors by Christmas.
Cash donations are also accepted so that AgSouth can purchase gifts for the seniors whose tags were not selected.
To select a tag, stop by the Statesboro Branch of AgSouth at 40 S. Main St., Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. For more information, contact the branch at (912) 764-9091.
