GBI announces graduation of Columbus native Lawrence R. Harrell, II from the GBI’s Special Agent Academy

Special Agent Lawrence Harrell

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation recently graduated Class 54 of the GBI Special Agent Academy. Among the graduates was Special Agent Lawrence R. Harrell, II who is assigned to the GBI’s regional investigative office in Statesboro, GA.

Originally from Columbus, GA, SA Harrell graduated from Northside High School in 2013. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Public Affairs in 2018 from the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, GA.

“My father inspired me to pursue a career in law enforcement from an early age,” said SA Harrell when asked why he wanted to become a GBI special agent. “Seeing both my parents humbly serve selfless careers led me to pursue my own path to protect others.”

SA Harrell’s father has been a Georgia State Patrol Trooper for over 40 years. His mother was a NICU nurse for over 40 years at Columbus Regional/Piedmont High-Risk Nursery.

SA Harrell stays motivated by the constant need to ensure justice and maintain the public’s trust in law enforcement. He looks forward most to working unsolved cases and bringing closure and answers to the families of the victims.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is comprised of three primary divisions: the Georgia Crime Information Center, the Crime Laboratory, and the Investigative Division. The GBI has over 900 employees and a current budget of $147,482,036.
