Child hit by car in Statesboro has died

An 8 year old boy who was stuck by an SUV while riding his bike has died.  

GSP Sergeant Robbie Scott reported that the child died at 12:54 PM on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.

The boy was struck by a SUV around 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 24,2023 on Mikell Street in the City of Statesboro.

According to GSP Sergeant Robbie Scott an 8 year old boy was riding a bicycle and did not yield to an SUV that was traveling south on South College Street.

The boy was traveling east on Mikell Street when he entered the intersection into the path of the SUV.  He was thrown from the bicycle and was in critical condition at the scene. Bulloch County EMS Paramedics transported the child to the Air Evac base on Fair Road.  He was then transported by a medical helicopter to Memorial Medical Center. 

The driver of the SUV fully cooperated with the investigation.  There have been no charges placed on the driver of the SUV.

There were two other children, ages 8 and 9, who were traveling with the 8 year old boy.  They were riding a type of electric scooter, together.  The other two children were not struck by the SUV but witnessed the accident.
