Billboard campaign shares messages of love and community in Statesboro

UMC Billboard Campaign

Commuters traveling along Northside Drive and Fair Road will notice three new digital billboards near Veterans Memorial Parkway, each displaying an uplifting message of love, community, and openness. Throughout February, these billboards will invite passersby to connect with a local United Methodist Church through a campaign launched by the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. The campaign highlights the presence of 18 United Methodist congregations across Bulloch, Evans, Jenkins, and Screven counties, directing people to www.findyourpeople.church to find a faith community near them.

The idea for the billboard campaign originated with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Smith, pastor of Pittman Park United Methodist Church in Statesboro, who was inspired after seeing a similar billboard in North Carolina promoting love over hate with the United Methodist Church logo. Moved by the message, Smith saw an opportunity to bring that same spirit of encouragement and welcome to South Georgia and invited leaders from the Northeast District, Statesboro First UMC, and Pittman Park UMC to guide the project.

“I am proud to be part of a church that promotes positive messages,” Smith said. “People need to hear that love and community matter, and our churches are here to embody that message.”

Recognizing the impact of this vision, the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church embraced the initiative, launching the campaign on behalf of churches in the Northeast District.

Each of the three billboards features a simple yet powerful message:

“Love God? Love People? Us too.”

“Open Minds. Open Hearts. Open Doors.”
