Anderson’s General Store installs a Book Nook for children

The Anderson's Book Nook

Recently, Anderson’s General Store partnered with the Bulloch READ literacy program to install a reading nook for kids.

The idea was born after Drew Wiggins, Anderson's General Manager, had a wonderful experience with his family at a local restaurant that had a book nook.

He shared, “I thought it would be great to have book area near our toy section in the store.”

He happened to mention this to his brother, Christopher Wiggins, who told him about the Bulloch READ initiative. Wiggins then met with Crystal Simpkins, the Director of Early Learning and Literacy for Bulloch County Schools. He learned about their mission to distribute books and to educate the community on the importance of early learning and literacy.

"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax all you need is a book!” – Dr. Seuss

Wiggins says, "We're a family owned store and are always looking to create and maintain a family friendly atmosphere. I'm proud to say that we now have a reading nook in our store. The nook is a place where children can come read a book and take it home at no charge.”

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” -Dr. Seuss

The book nook is located in the toy section area of the store. Kids can look at the books while their parents shop and take one book home free to read over the summer. From picture books and early readers all the way up to middle school age books, there is something for every child to enjoy.

Wiggins hopes that by partnering with this program, Anderson’s can make a positive impact in our community.

"There are many little ways to enlarge your world.  Love of books is the best of all.”-- Jacqueline Kennedy
