Statesboro to honor Veterans at Averitt Center featuring keynote by Chaplain Nick Spletstoser

The American Legion Dexter Allen Post 90 is set to host is annual Veterans Day tribute, welcoming veterans and community members to honor those who have selflessly served.

This year’s event, taking place on Monday, November 11, 2024, will be held at the Averitt Center for the Arts, located at 33 East Main Street in downtown Statesboro. The program is made possible through the support of the Averitt Center, American Legion Post 90, and Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.

The morning will kick off with music by Isaac Sherrod from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Alongside this, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will provide coffee and doughnuts to guests.

The official ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. in the Emma Kelly Theater, with the keynote address given by Chaplain (LTC) Nick Spletstoser.

Currently serving as the Joint Forces Headquarters (Army) Chaplain for the South Carolina Army National Guard, Chaplain Spletstoser brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his work. A graduate of North Georgia College and State University and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he holds a Master of Divinity with a specialization in pastoral leadership and a Master of Science in community counseling.

His military journey began in 1992, and he has served in numerous roles, from infantryman to Brigade Chaplain. Among his many accolades are the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal.

Beyond his military service, Spletstoser works as Senior Chaplain for Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, focusing on pastoral care, grief counseling, and the We Honor Veterans program. A martial artist, he is also a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo.

Following the program, all attendees are invited to a free picnic lunch provided by Post 90 at 100 Rucker Lane, with hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings.
