Georgia Southern men's basketball has signed 6-8 forward Micah Smith, head coach Charlie Henry announced.

"We are excited to add Micah Smith to the men's basketball program. Recruiting our home state has been a day one priority for us and we feel like we hit a home run with Micah," Henry said. "Micah is a winner! That has been evident throughout his prep career at Sandy Creek playing on championship teams under Coach Nickerson, one of the very best coaches in the state. On top of the type of player he is, Micah is a great student who comes from a great family. I have no doubt he will represent this university in a first-class manner and Eagle Nation will love the passion and competitiveness he brings to the floor!"

Smith, a 6-8 forward out of Tyrone, Ga., had initially committed to James Madison before the coaching change and will instead return closer to home to play with the Eagles.

Smith spent his high school career at Sandy Creek in Tyrone, where he scored over 1,000 points during his time with the Patriots. This season, he led the Patriots to their second consecutive state championship, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a 73-49 win over Johnson-Savannah. He also dished four assists and swatted five blocks.

As a junior, Smith averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals and was named 2022-23 3A Player of the Year after leading Sandy Creek to the state championship.

The forward competed with the 'Anthony Edwards 5' on the Adidas circuit, including participating in the All-American Camp.

Rated as a three-star prospect, ranked 155th overall and 34th among power forwards in the 2024 class by 247Sports, Smith was tabbed as the 14th-ranked player in Georgia.

He joins an incoming freshman class featuring guards Langston Boyd (Cox Mill) and Braylhan Thomas (Gray Collegiate).
