GALLERY | Free Comic Book Day provided hundreds of free comics to attendees

Galactic Comics and Games hosted Free Comic Book Day, an international celebration of these beloved visual stories. Local artists were available for meet and greets, and attendees took home new reads from a large table filled with free comic books.

Free Comic Book Day was a success at Galactic Comics and Games. Held on Saturday, May 4th, from the hours of 9:00am until 8:00pm, hundreds of free comics were disbursed to avid fans.

Comic book enthusiasts automatically earned four free comic books, which were arranged in age-appropriate categories. Patrons who arrived in costumes earned an additional four, and anyone who engaged featured artists earned yet another four.

Emerging artists from Metter High School, accompanied by their art teacher, Matthew Boyd, were on hand to observe as they sketched their latest creations. Jerimiah Boyd, Jamie Faith, and Malaysia Kennedy were available to answer questions and talk about their artwork with passersby.

Statesboro artist Brendan Cave chatted as he sketched and commented on what a journey art has been for him.

The hundreds of free comics will no doubt provide enjoyment for seasoned fans, as well as spark new curiosity in the minds of those new to the phenomenon. Until next year, when we gather once again to celebrate our shared love for the art of storytelling, we bid farewell to another successful Free Comic Book Day.
