The Statesboro Fire Department is announcing a smoke alarm blitz for city residents as a part of its ongoing initiative to provide free detector installations in homes around the community.

The smoke alarm blitz will take place on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 near Kingswood Ave., Lydia Ln., and Wilburn Cir. Residents of this area can expect to see firefighters going door-to-door to provide free smoke alarms.

“We want to ensure that every family in Statesboro is equipped with working smoke detectors,” said Tim Grams, Statesboro Fire Chief. “This initiative is a crucial piece of our commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.”

In addition to this blitz, the Statesboro Fire Department also offers free smoke detector installation to residents located within the city limits of Statesboro or within the department’s Five Mile Service District outside the city limits. In addition to free installation, the department has a limited supply of free smoke detectors on hand to provide to residents unable to purchase detectors due to circumstantial hardships. This essential program ensures that every household can access life-saving smoke detectors, regardless of their financial status.

“The Statesboro Fire Department remains dedicated to serving Statesboro and the greater Bulloch community and enhancing public safety,” says Grams. “We encourage residents to take advantage of this free program and ensure their homes have the necessary safety equipment.”
