Hurricane Helene is now a Cat 4 Hurricane and is projected to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle region around 11:00 pm Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Helene's wind field is historically large, and tropical storm force wind gusts of 40-60 mph or greater are expected statewide tonight and tomorrow. Widespread power outages are expected statewide with major, extended power issues expected in Southwest and South-Central Georgia. Counties under a Hurricane Warning should expect hurricane force conditions tonight and tomorrow. The remainder of Georgia is under a Tropical Storm Warning and should expect wind gusts of at least 40-60 mph tonight and tomorrow.
Bulloch County is under a tropical storm warning and a tornado watch. Tropical Storm Force winds with maximum sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph are possible, will start this evening through tonight, with a slow decrease after 3 AM. Expect Scattered power outages, downed and uprooted trees and hazardous conditions for high profile vehicles on bridges/overpasses.
Impacts from scattered tornadoes continues to be one of our biggest concerns through tonight/early Friday morning.

- Tropical Storm Winds: Strong gusts of 45-65 mph are forecast, peaking late tonight. Stay indoors and secure any outdoor items that may become dangerous projectiles.
- Tornado Threat: The risk of tornadoes is high tonight through early Friday. Several tornadoes have already been reported. Be prepared to seek shelter immediately if a Tornado Warning is issued.
- Heavy Rainfall: 1.5 to 4 inches of rain is expected, with isolated higher amounts possible. Flooding of low-lying areas is likely, and isolated flash floods could occur. Avoid driving through flooded areas.
- Storm Surge: Coastal areas of southeast Georgia may see 1-3 feet of storm surge. If you are in a vulnerable area, follow local guidance on evacuation or safety precautions.
