Southeast Bulloch softball avenges only loss with shutout

The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets hosted the Wayne County Yellow Jackets on Wednesday. Southeast Bulloch had revenge on their mind as they squared off with the team responsible for their only loss of the season.

After 3 and a half innings of stifling defense from both sides, Southeast Bulloch broke the seal when Meghan Newham sent a rocket to centerfield that brought her and Marrissa Waters home. The dugout was chanting "That's our freshman." The freshman came up big with a timely homer that created some breathing room on the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the 6th, Southeast Bulloch extended their lead to 4 when Hannah Griffin scored off a single by Halleigh Morton and Newham found home again from a wild pitch.

Trell Reed put on a pitching display as she sat down numerous Wayne County players. Whenever Southeast Bulloch needed a big stop, she came through. Head Coach Aimee Civalier spoke on the defense of her team. "We played really good defense," Civalier said. "Trell was dominant on the mound, we shut them out. They haven't been shutout except for once."

This was a good game to show the SEB team what playoff competition is going to look like. Coach Civalier believes this was a good test for her squad.

"That's a great team over there," Civalier said. "Win or lose, just playing a good team like that in this kind of atmosphere and environment is going to help us."

Wednesday's win strengthens the Yellow Jackets' resume in the GHSA power rankings. SEB currently has a 19-1 record on the season.
