BROOKLET – The Southeast Bulloch Varsity Flag Football are now 58-0 since the program started in 2021.  Tuesday night, they played their first and second round of state playoffs and defeated South Effingham 33-0 and defeated Jenkins High School 46-0.

Against South Effingham, the Yellow Jackets did well overall.  They had a couple of mistakes and mental blocks which allowed for the Mustangs to get prime field position, but the Yellow Jackets didn’t allow them to capitalize on anything. Head coach, Marci Cochran, was impressed with her girls and their overall play in that matchup coming off a two week break.

In the second game of the night, the Yellow Jackets took on Jenkins High School out of Savannah. In this game, mistakes and mental blocks weren’t an issue for the Yellow Jackets as they dominated the entire game. They came out ready to play and a big reason for that was Senior WR/S, Alex Odom, playing great on both sides of the ball.

Defense is going to be the name of the game for the Yellow Jackets for the rest of the season and the state playoffs. In both games Tuesday night, the defense made huge stops all night. Head coach Marci Cochran was happy with how relentless her team’s defense was.

“If we’re gonna win this [state playoffs], the defense has gotta win it for us,” Cochran said. “Every game from now on if we’re gonna win, the defense has gotta win it for us. If a team can’t score, they can’t win.”

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action again on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at home. They will be facing Therrell High School out of Atlanta for the third round of the state playoffs. If the Yellow Jackets win the next two rounds, they will be playing at Mercedes Benz Stadium for the State Championship game on December 11, 2023.
