The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets are on their way to the quarterfinals (Elite Eight) of the 2024-2025 GHSA Division 1 State Flag Football Championship Playoffs. On Thursday, December 5, the Jackets faced the Wheeler County Bulldogs and the Miller Grove Wolverines. The Jackets defeated the Bulldogs 27-6 for round one, and then defeated the Wolverines 34-0 for round two.
The past season has been a roller coaster for the Jackets who finished the 2024 season (15-1, 6-0) and are the Division One Area Four Region Champions. Head coach Marci Cochran is ready for her team to start their journey to their fourth straight state title.
“Sending the seniors out with four rings would be an amazing feeling,” Cochran said.
The Jackets came into this postseason with a record of 77-1 with their first loss coming in the final regular season matchup against Calvary Day, 7-0. That was the first loss in program history since the Yellow Jackets began their program in the 2021-2022 season.
Despite that loss, coach Cochran was happy with how her team bounced back with these past two wins.
“We had to do some mental work after that loss and put that game out of our minds,” Cochran said.
Work they did do as junior rusher Paige Nelson was a beast on the field scoring all four touchdowns, pulled six flags, and had one sack for the Jackets against Wheeler County.
As they prepare to set the stage for their 4th straight state championship, the Jackets are focusing one game at a time. With these two wins in the postseason, the Jackets are 2-0, looking to eventually be 5-0 and state champions come December 16 at the Mercedes Benz Stadium.
The Jackets will be back in action on Monday, December 9, 2024. They will take on the Harris County Tigers at 5 pm for the third round of the state tournament. If they defeat the Tigers, the Jackets will face the winner of Dodge County and Westside Macon for the final four on Thursday, December 12.
