Members of the Southeast Bulloch community made their way to Southeast Bulloch High School on April 5th for the 2025 SEB Athletic Hall of Fame banquet.
Among those members of the community were the newest 2025 class of Hall of Famers that were to be inducted that night. This marked the 29th Hall of Fame meeting since the first one in 1995. Coach Fred Shaver, a prominent man in the SEB community, created the committee in 1994.
Another member of the Hall of Fame committee, Coach John Page, shed some light on what the Hall of Fame committee aims to do with their induction banquets.
“It is a chance to give some recognition to the student athletes of Southeast Bulloch for the things that they have achieved in their lives, not only from athletics but also from what they’ve done after school,” said Page.
The banquet started off with a welcome from SEBHS principal Dr. Julie Mizell, some words from the master of ceremonies, Ben Buie, and an invocation from Casey Webb. Afterwards, the banquet broke for a minute to allow the guests to fix themselves some food.
After some time, the first inductee was called. First up was Toby Davis, an honorary inductee, who has been deeply involved with the SEB track teams. He has also assisted the cross-country team with fundraising through the Brooklet 5K Peanut Run as the race director.
Davis gave a great speech about the word “yes” and what it has done for him in his life. He noted that the word opened many doors for him and taught him responsibility.
The next inductee was Donald Lockhart. Lockhart was recognized for his involvement with football, track and field, and basketball.
Lockhart set three school records that have never been broken. He holds the record for the longest field goal with 52 yards, the longest punt with 98 yards, and the best punting average for a season with 49.5 yards.
Next was Katie Nevil Abercrombie. Abercrombie was recognized for her career in track and field.
During her time participating in track and field, her team set and still holds the school record for the 4 x 400m relay. Abercrombie was also the 2013 Georgia’s Homecoming Queen.
After Abercrombie came Tyler Epps. Epps was recognized for his football and baseball career in high school.
Epps was 2nd team All-State in football in 2012 and once had 1,800 yards and 27 touchdowns in a single season. In baseball he was named the best offensive player and All-Region in 2012.
Lastly, was Jasmine Roberts. She was recognized for her illustrious high school athletic career where she was involved with basketball, track and field, softball, and volleyball.
Roberts won an individual state title in the triple jump event in 2014 and was named Max Prep athlete of the year in 2014. She also was able to reach the 1,000 point club in basketball and was a two time All-Around MVP.
Additional info
Toby Davis, Honorary Inductee
Toby became involved with SEB in early 2003, when he was asked to head up the fundraiser for the cross-country team. The fundraiser was the Brooklet 5k Peanut Run. He took over as race director, being a runner himself who had already run in numerous 5k races and had some knowledge of such events.
The principal at the time was John Frazier, who had previously been the cross-country coach. He contacted him and asked him if he was going to be involved with the team’s fundraising, he would like him to come on board as a lay coach. Toby quickly enrolled in the lay coaches’ class and began coaching that year.
Since then, he has continued to be directly involved in the Peanut Run, and this year will be the 25th year of the event, also sharing the event to help the tennis team and the track team. Over the last 23 years, Toby has continued his involvement with the track teams and cross-country teams at both SEB High and Middle Schools.
Toby assists with track and cross country meets when asked, and he still coaches consistently, mainly with the middle school. While coaching, he obtained his CDL Bus license and has been involved as an activity driver carrying various SEB sports teams to their matches, games, and races.
