Game Notes

  • Georgia Southern closes out the regular season with a pair of home games, starting with a contest against Coastal Carolina Wednesday night in Hanner Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and the Georgia Southern Sports Network.
  • It's the second meeting between the teams this season. GS earned a 73-64 win at the HTC Center Dec. 31.
  • Georgia Southern is tied for ninth in the Sun Belt standings, and the highest the Eagles can finish is sixth. Coastal Carolina is 12th in the standings and looking to climb out of a first-round game in next week's Sun Belt Tournament. The top four seeds earn a bye to the quarterfinals, while seeds 5-10 earn a bye into the second round.
  • The Eagles are in a stretch in which they finish the regular season with four of six contests at home and are 2-2 during the span, having won two home games and lost two road games. GS is coming off a 73-62 setback at Southern Miss Saturday afternoon.
  • Seven Eagles are scoring seven or more points a game, and only leading scorer Andrei Savrasov takes more than 10 shots a game (110/gm). Six different Eagles have led the team in scoring in a game this season.
  • The Eagles have notched single-digit turnovers in 10 games. GS ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in turnover margin (1.6) and fourth in the league in least turnovers (11.6/gm).
  • Savrasov has scored 20-plus points in three of the last four contests, has posted double-digit rebounds in four of the last six and has double-doubles in three of the last five.  The redshirt senior ranks ninth in the Sun Belt in rebounding (7.3/gm), fourth in field goal percentage (.495) and 10th in steals (1.4/gm). 
  • Jalen Finch has 104 assists and has become the first Eagle to record 100 assists in a season since Tookie Brown posted 154 in 2018-19. Finch is third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.04), eighth in assists (3.6/gm) and 11th in steals (1.4/gm). 
  • Carlos Curry ranks 10th in the Sun Belt in rebounding (7.2/gm) and 10th in double-doubles (4).
  • GS is 29-1 in its last 30 games when shooting 50% or better from the floor. The Eagles lost 94-87 at Louisiana Jan. 28 despite shooting 56.3 percent.
  • GS has won four of its last five games that were decided by one point. The Eagles fell 84-83 at Marshall Feb. 16.
  • The Eagles finished the road schedule with a 3-11 record and is 4-11 away from home (road and neutral site games).
  • Despite having a stretch of 10 straight games with the same starters, GS has used eight different starting lineups this season.
  • Coastal Carolina is 1-4 in its last five and coming off a 78-75 home loss to Texas State Saturday afternoon.
  • The Chanticleers are 3-9 on the road this season. 
  • Coastal Carolina leads the Sun Belt and ranks 15th in the country in free-throw percentage (77.0) and is second in the league in rebounding (37.8/gm) and fourth in offensive rebounding (11.5/gm).
  • Essam Mostafa nearly averages a double-double with 12.4 points and 9.9 rebounds a game and ranks sixth in the country with 15 double-doubles this season. He is one of four Chants who average double-figures in the scoring column, led by Josh Uduje with 13.2 points a contest.
