The Statesboro Blue Devils fell 1-2 on the season with their most recent loss to the Greenbrier Wolves 43-14 on the road on Friday, September 6.
The Statesboro Blue Devils seemed to be a little discombobulated coming into the game allowing the Greenbrier Wolves to get a quick 14-0 lead on them in the first quarter, but seemed to settle in in the second as they fought back to tie the game up 14-14 to go into the half.
In the second half of the match up, the Blue Devils turned the ball over too many times and couldn’t seem to stop the running game of the wolves, nor get their own action up.
Overall the Blue Devils just got beat from all sides. They had 11 first downs compared to the Wolves 15. The Wolves rushed for 318 yards, while the Blue Devils only had 18. The Blue Devils did have 185 passing yards compared to the Wolves 45, but the Wolves ended the night with 363 total yards to the Blue Devils 203 total yards.
Head coach Matt Dobson didn’t sugarcoat his distaste for this loss..
“Ultimately not being able to run the football and not stop the run is what got us beat along with our turnovers,” Dobson said.
This game was a complete 180 from last week’s 21-10 win over Veterans where the Blue Devils seemed to play with a chip on their shoulder and some anger from their blowout loss to the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets two weeks prior to that.
