The Georgia Southern women's tennis program has cracked the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I Women's Team Rankings, sponsored by Tennis-Point. The Eagles check in at No. 74 in the latest release, earning the first ITA national ranking for Georgia Southern women's tennis in program history.
The Eagles, who are 7-1 on the young season and riding a seven-match winning streak, continue to add program firsts under Head Coach Sean McCaffrey. Georgia Southern captured its first Sun Belt Conference tournament title in 2021, earning the program's first NCAA Championships berth that season.
The 7-1 start to the season is the third-best start in program history, behind only the 1981 and 1982 squads.
Old Dominion (No. 22) is the only other Sun Belt team that appears in Tuesday's rankings. Click here to view the complete ITA Division I Women's Tennis Rankings.
"This is great for the entire program," said Coach McCaffrey. "We have spent so much time over the years trying to inch our way towards being the best we can be as a team. Earning this ranking is a testament to everyone who has worked to help make Georgia Southern women's tennis something special. Yet, we are squarely focused on the day-to-day development and growth.
"We are certainly happy to learn of being nationally ranked and we will use this as fuel to help us continue to grow. We won't be chasing a ranking, but we will be chasing our goal of making ourselves get better by 1% from one day to the next."
The Eagles' next home match is Sunday, March 5, versus Davidson at the Wallis Tennis Center. A full schedule is available here.
