Georgia Southern Baseball Completes the Sweep of ULM with Run-Rule Victory, 15-3

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern only needed seven innings to complete a Sun Belt Conference series sweep of the ULM Warhawks on Sunday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium.

Georgia Southern (23-21, 13-8 SBC) took an early lead over the Warhawks (15-29, 5-15 SBC) in the botton of the first frame, starting with a Corey Dowdell RBI-single that brought home Jesse Sherrill. In the same inning, Blake Evans knocked a two-RBI double to left center field, bringing home Dowdell and Luke Hatcher to take an early 3-0 lead. The Warhawks stormed back in the top of the second inning with a three-RBI single and error, but the Eagles would keep the Warhawks under control for the remainder of the game.

Dowdell broke the tie in the bottom of the second inning with a grand slam to left field, the first of his career. With a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles looked to continue to add to the lead, first with a JP Tighe two-RBI double that plated Hatcher and Dowdell, followed with a Kaiser RBI-single that scored Tighe. Sherrill followed that up with an RBI-single through the right side that brought home Kaiser. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jarrett Brown knocked a bases-clearing double to dead center, bringing home Sherrill, Sam Blancato, and Dowdell. Dowdell finished the scoring with an RBI-single, scoring Brown and finalizing the lead at 15-3. The Warhawks went down quickly in the top of the seventh inning, and the Eagles clinched an important conference sweep to stay alone at third place in the SBC.

Ga'von Wray earned his third win of the season after coming in relief and pitching three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
