STATESBORO - 10 Georgia Southern baseball players have kept busy after the conclusion of the baseball season by playing in various summer baseball leagues around the country. Over the course of the coming week, we will be checking in on our players and seeing how they are performing over the summer. For today, we will be looking at INF Corey Dowdel, LHP Will Robbins, C Bobby Stang OF Aj Wenrich, and RHP Ga'von Wray out of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
COREY DOWDELL
Dowdell has spent his summer with the Saugerties Stallions, a team in the PGCBL East Division based out of Saugerties, New York. So afr this season, Dowdell has a .259 batting average with 15 hits in 19 games. Five of those hits are extra base hits, with three doubles, a triple, and a home run. Dowdell has eight RBI with seven runs of his own, 13 walks, and a stolen base this summer. One of his best performances of the season came against Albany on June 19, where he went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to help the Stallions defeat the Dutchmen, 5-2.
WILL ROBBINS
Robbins pitches for the Saugerties Stallions, where he currently holds a 3.37 ERA on the summer. He has appeared in six games so far, starting one, and has 23 strikeouts to only nine walks in 13.1 innings of work. Robbins has struck out multiple batters in all of his appearances, including a June 30 victory over Glens Falls, where he sat down six in three innings. Robbins has only given up five earned runs all summer and did not give up his first one until his fourth appearance.
BOBBY STANG
Stang plays for the Auburn DoubleDays based out of Auburn, New York, where he has had a phenomenal season so far. Stang was named to the PGCBL's Midseason All-Star Team out of the West Division on July 12, batting at a .322 mark this season. Stang has 29 hits, 18 of which are extra base hits (16 doubles and two homers). He also has tallied 26 RBI with 12 runs scored of his own. Stang started the season hot with back-to-back games with three hits, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs and four RBI in an 18-8 win over Elmira, followed by a 3-for-4 night with two doubles and two RBI in a 6-0 victory over Jamestown. In his previous outing on July 11, Stang went 2-for-3 with a homer, three runs scored and four RBI.
AJ WENRICH
Wenrich plays for the Auburn DoubleDays with teammate Bobby Stang, where he is batting .164 on the season. Wenrich has 12 hits with five of those being doubles, along with nine runs scored of his own this summer. Wenrich also has four stolen bases, showing his speed on the basepath. One of his top performances of the season was a 3-for-5 night, including a double, in a 16-0 victory over Geneva. On June 27 against Newark, Wenrich went 2-for-3, with both of his hits being doubles, and scored two runs of his own.
GA'VON WRAY
Wray pitches for the Saugerties Stallions, where he holds a 1.50 ERA with a 1-0 record in five starts this season. Wray has fanned 17 batters in 18 inning of work over the summer, and has only given up three earned runs. His top performance of the season came in his most recent start, on July 6 in a road contest against Mohawk Valley. Wray pitched for six innings of scoreless baseball sitting down seven in a 5-0 victory over the DiamondDawgs.
