Ben Carr Posts 74 in ‘Frustrating’ Second Round at The Masters

Ben Carr at the Master's

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Georgia Southern fifth-year senior Ben Carr hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation but could not get the putts to drop en route to shooting a 74 in the second round of The Masters Friday at Augusta National Golf Club.

The second round was suspended with players still on the course and will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday. The cut will be established after all players have finished the second round.

Carr's approach found the dance floor on 11 of his first 13 holes of the day, and he came away with 13 pars. He was short of the green on hole 5 but chipped up to within three feet to make par. He found the greenside bunker on the par-5 13th and scrambled for another par.

Carr missed greens on 14 and 17 and wound up posting bogeys to finish with the 74 today, and he is +5 for the tournament.

Quotable
On conditions and the round overall
"Again, not much wind. It was fairly soft, a little firmer than yesterday, but still pretty soft. I played fine, just didn't really make a putt, and it was really frustrating."

On trying to be patient while also trying to make a putt
"I definitely felt like I did a good job of staying patient; I really just felt like if I kept hitting good shots into greens then eventually a putt would fall. I thought I made the putt on 12 off the face. Even on 11, I thought the putt on 11 was dropping. On 15, that was just kind of a slope up on speed, and then I honestly thought I hit a pretty good second putt, it just dove. I'm not really sure how 16 didn't go in. I hit a decent amount of good putts; just sometimes they don't fall."
