Rev. David Buie

Rev. David Broward Buie, 83, passed away at his residence on August 28, 2024.

David was a lifelong pastor and educator, who will be missed by his family and the community. He was born in Savannah, GA to the late Charlie E. and Beatrice Buie in 1941. He began preaching in Savannah when he was fourteen years old and continued to do so for sixty years. He attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City in 1968. He preached at several churches in the Savannah and Sylvania area, at Friendship Baptist Church for a total of 29 years, and lastly at Little Horse Creek Baptist Church for nearly 20 years until 2015.

He was an educator for thirty-seven years until his retirement from the Screven County School system. Here he served in many roles, as a history teacher, in administration, and as the assistant principal at the Elementary and Middle schools. He loved history and was a member of the Briar Creek Historical Committee and the Historic Preservation Advisory Council. Always one to stay busy, if he wasn’t in church or the classroom, he was farming.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Buie, and his parents.

He is survived by his daughter: Bonnie Yvonne B. (Kenny) Mosher of Statesboro, GA; sons: David Kent Buie of Seattle, WA and Charles Michael Buie of Sylvania; grandchildren: Dave (Ashley) Allen, Brian Allen, Alex Buie, Ian Buie, Eric Buie, Ethan Buie and Katie Buie; and a great-grandson, Emmerich Allen, and a special friend, Jeannine Boggs.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00am at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Wall officiating, assisted by Rev. Pete Wall and Rev. Kevin Rountree. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phil Parker, Bickle Thomas, Steven Milner, Stuart Thompson, Ryan Reddick, Grady Reddick, Raymond Cooper, and Phillip Ayers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Rev. Buie’s Sunday School Class.
