Neil Andrew Russell

July 4, 1961  -  April 22, 2025

Neil Andrew Russell, age 63, of Statesboro, Georgia, peacefully passed away at home on April 22, 2025, after a courageous 11-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.

Neil was born a middle aged adult on July 4, 1961, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Neil was the son of Max and Patricia Russell. Throughout his life, Neil pursued a variety of careers that reflected his diverse talents and interests. He began his professional journey in national radio broadcasting, working with CNN Radio before becoming a well-known on-air personality for radio stations in Metter, Statesboro, and across the Southeastern United States. Neil was also an entrepreneur, owning several local retail stores and founding an auctioneering company. His dedication to helping others was evident in his 13 years of service with many good friends at Guardian Pharmacy, where he provided medication to nursing home residents.

Neil had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, which he freely shared with friends and family alike. He was also a skilled artist, founding the Cruel World comic strip, which appeared in the Statesboro Herald and online. His love for videography earned him recognition, including the People's Choice Award at the Statesboro Film Festival in 2011. Neil was an expert gunsmith in spite of his apprenticeship with Raegan’s Gun Shop. He also had a passion for classic cars, though he famously made an exception for Chrysler vehicles. Ironically, his final ride was in a Chrysler—something that would not have surprised Neil at all.

Neil is survived by his wife, Tracy Mallary-Russell; his son, Air Force SSgt. James Spencer Russell; and his beloved Tesla Model S.

A tasteful cocktail party will be held at a later date to celebrate Neil’s life and the many ways he touched the lives of others. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fostering Bulloch, a cause that is dear to Tracy and which Neil fully supported. Alternatively, friends and family are encouraged to raise a glass in Neil's honor.
