December 16, 1949 - April 3, 2025
Linda Ann Pierce Dickerson passed away on April 3, 2025, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her brother, John Winton Pierce Jr; her husband, Jimmy Lee Dickerson; a brother-in-law, Melvin Dickerson, and sisters-in-law Jean Dickerson, Judy Dickerson, and Lynn Dickerson. She was 75 years old.
Linda was born on December 16, 1949, to John Winton Pierce and Catherine Taylor Pierce of Sylvania. The oldest of four children, she was affectionately nicknamed “Sarge” by her siblings – she loved them dearly and provided direction and care for them all as they worked on their family agricultural endeavors, “Pierce Poultry Farm”, and “Fox Ridge Dairy”. Linda shared fond memories of delivering eggs to homes and businesses all over the county in Tin Lizzy, the family’s 1957 Chevrolet, and of growing up in a rural environment filled with responsibilities and love.
She was a hard worker and an excellent student, and no one who knew her was surprised when she graduated from Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing to pursue a career of helping others in need.
In 1976, Linda met and married Jimmy Dickerson, the love of her life, and for the next 47 years they were rarely apart. They made their home near Sylvania on Jimmy’s family farm, where they raised row crops, beef cattle, and two sons. Linda spent 25 years working for Saint Joseph Home Health Care, and the last 12 years of her career serving as the Director of Clinical Services for Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. She was especially proud of her role in planning and supporting the operation of OAH’s beautiful inpatient facility.
She is survived by her sons, Brett (Alyson) Dickerson, and Garett Dickerson; two grandchildren, Wynn and Dylan Dickerson; her sisters Susan (Steve) Owings and Cathy (Jeff) Pollard; brother-in-law Harold (Brenda) Dickerson, and several nieces and nephews.
Linda is also survived by a legacy of helping others in need, both professionally and through her faith in Christ. She loved her God and her church family at Buck Creek Church, and was a fixture on several organizing boards and at the annual fundraising barbecue for many years. She was also born and raised with a love of flowers, and especially enjoyed the activities and friendships formed as a member of the Screven County Garden Club.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, at Buck Creek Church with Reverend Carroll Gay officiating. Interment will follow at the McBride Church cemetery immediately afterwards. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Buck Creek Church sanctuary prior to the service.
Active pallbearers are Eddie Dickerson, Ricky Scott, Scott Sell, Wynn Dickerson, Dylan Dickerson, and Martial Hamel. Honorary pallbearers include Reggie Brooks, Harold and Brenda Dickerson, and members of the Screven County Garden Club.
Memorial contributions may be made to Buck Creek Church, or the McBride Church cemetery fund, both of Sylvania, Georgia.
