Mrs. Bessie Virginia Murphy, age 95, died Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Brown’s Health and Rehabilitation under the care of Regency SouthernCare Hospice.
The Venus, Florida native traveled the United States with her husband during his military career, before moving to Savannah, Georgia in the 1970’s. During that time, she and her husband, Billie owned and operated Bill and Virginias on Stephenson Ave. in Savannah, for many years, until their retirement in the 1990’s. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church on Hodgson Memorial Drive in Savannah. Virginia moved to Statesboro in 2020, to be near her daughter. She became a resident of Brown’s Health and Rehabilitation in August of 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Clayton Murphy; a daughter, Sherri Lee Sikes; and two grandchildren, Kimberly and Jason Humensky.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Lou Murphy of Statesboro and Catherine and Al Humensky of San Antonio, TX, and four grandchildren, Wallace Warren of Statesboro, Samantha Poteralski of Statesboro, Gary Sikes, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, and Virginia Sikes of Springfield, GA.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 2:00pm at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Regency SouthernCare Hospice, 325 South Main Street, Statesboro, Georgia 30458.
