Youth Connect students visit Cybersecurity program at OTC

Ogeechee Technical College’s (OTC) Cybersecurity program hosted several students from the Statesboro Youth Connect (SYC) program. The visit was scheduled to inspire and educate students about the exciting and viable options in technical education.

SYC, a 5-week summer initiative that began in June 2021, provides high school students with the opportunity to engage with government and community leaders, as well as industry professionals. The 2024 program included 30 hours of weekly commitment and offered participants $7.25 per hour.

"We were thrilled to host the SYC participants and showcase the dynamic world of cybersecurity," said Terry Hand, Cybersecurity Instructor at OTC. "This visit not only highlights the importance of cybersecurity but also encourages students to consider technical education as a viable and rewarding career path."

The Cybersecurity program at OTC is tailored to prepare students for the critical task of protecting and defending computer systems and networks from cyber threats.

In just six semesters, students are equipped with the skills needed to pursue careers as Information Security Analysts, Information Systems Security Managers, and Network Security Analysts. The program emphasizes hands-on training and real-world applications, ensuring that graduates are ready to tackle the challenges of the cybersecurity landscape.
