WTOC’s Dawn Baker to be inducted into the Silver Circle

WTOC's Dawn Baker

WTOC’s Dawn Baker will be inducted into the Silver Circle by the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Sept. 8, 2023, in Atlanta. Silver Circle honors 25 years or more work in the broadcast industry in a performing, creative, technical, or administrative position. Honorees have made significant contributions in the Southeast Region, extending beyond professional excellence and commitment to their craft. Baker is among the top talented broadcasters who are a force in their community as mentors, educators, and volunteers.

Baker’s impressive journalism career spans over 35 years, with the past 34 years spent at WTOC-TV in Savannah reporting on the area’s most significant local, regional and national stories. A native of Riceboro, GA, Baker was educated in the Liberty and Chatham County Public Schools. Baker was an Honor Graduate of Savannah High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

In 1989, Baker joined the WTOC team as a general assignment reporter covering education and court beats. Baker’s favorite assignments are the stories that “help someone in need or showcase a talented or unique person who most people live around, but don’t know anything about.” Her work telling these stories has been recognized by the Associated Press, earning Best Series and Best Documentary Awards.

Baker’s impact on the Savannah market is far-reaching, and she lives and breathes her oft-stated belief that the “everyone is responsible for doing our part to improve the quality of life for our fellow man.” Baker has embodied that philosophy through her service on community boards over the years. In 2011, Baker released her book, Dawn’s Daughter: Everything a Woman Needs to Know. The book’s release served as the beginning of a movement to change the world and the next generation of leaders by empowering women, one girl at a time. A portion of the proceeds from the book goes to “The Dawning of a Miracle Scholarship,” a fund Baker created to assist young women with chronic/life-threating illnesses to go to college.

Congratulations to Dawn on this much-deserved recognition for an outstanding career!!!
