Update 3/7/24: Investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Kentaevious Davis, age 20, at a residence in Tattnall County, Georgia on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

Update 3/6/24: After autopsies were conducted of the two homicide victims from the Days Inn case, detectives have notified both families concerning the deaths of their loved ones.  The decedents are Jamaryce Mincey (23, Green Street, States boro) and Christopher Joyce (20, originally of McDonough, Ga). 

Update 5:37 PM 3/1/24: Stateboro Police Department Detectives issued arrest warrants on Friday, March 1, 2024 charging Kentaevious Davis age 20 with a Glennville, GA address with two counts of Felony Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault in connection with the Thursday, February 29, 2024 double homicide at Days Inn in Statesboro, GA.

Update 6:47 AM 3/1/24: . Days Inn hotel management performed a welfare check on the occupants of a room and located two males shot inside and called 911.

The identities of the decedents are being withheld at this time pending a formal identification by the GBI’s Coastal Regional Crime Lab. Detectives worked throughout the night processing the scene and working leads.

Evidence suggests that the decedents knew their killer or killers and that the event was not random. Further information will be released as the investigation develops. 

Update 10:56 PM 2/29/24: Both deceased males have gunshot wounds.  The crime scene is contained to one room at the hotel.  Detectives are interviewing potential witnesses at this time, per SPD Chief Broadhead.

Initial report: Bulloch County 911 operators dispatched Bulloch County EMS at approximately 8:38 pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024 to the Day's Inn, 616 Fair Road in Statesboro, GA.

SPD Officers responded to the hotel to perform a welfare check and discovered multiple victims and requested EMS to the scene.  On arrival Bulloch County EMS reported that there were two victims, both deceased, and requested Bulloch County Coroner to the scene.

Mike Broadhead, Statesboro Police Chief confirmed that there are two deceased males at the hotel.  They have secured the scene and are awaiting a search warrant to gain access back into the scene.

No further details or cause of death have been released at this time.  This investigation is very preliminary and SPD Officers and Detectives will remain on the scene throughout the night.
