A Statesboro couple suffered burns in a Saturday morning, December 30, 2023, house fire in Statesboro and have been transported to Doctors Hospital burn center in Augusta, GA.

This is the third serious house fire in Statesboro in less than 24 hours.  There were no injuries reported in the previous two fires.

Bulloch County 911 operators dispatched Statesboro and Bulloch County Fire Departments at 9:40 am to a house fire located in the 300 block of Proctor street in the City of Statesboro.

Statesboro Police Department officers arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the home.

Statesboro Fire Department Engine One arrived on the scene and confirmed heavy smoke and active fire coming from the single story wood structure. 

They requested additional fire engines and firefighters to the scene to assist with the fire.

Fire command also reported that the occupants of the home needed medical care. 

Bulloch County EMS Paramedics on the scene began treating two burn victims and requested a second ambulance to the scene to assist.  They also requested a medical helicopter.  Due to a lengthy response time for the helicopter the paramedics decided to transport the two burn victims by ambulance to the burn center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA.

The condition of the burn victims are not known at this time.  There were no other occupants in the home at the time of the fire.

They had the primary fire beat down in about fifteen minutes and continued working for some time to completely extinguish the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene until all of the hot spots were extinguished.

Officers from Statesboro Police Department, Bulloch County Sheriff's Office and Georgia DNR assisted with crowd and traffic control.  West Main and Proctor streets were closed for over an hour.

Statesboro Fire CAFE unit responded to assist in refreshing the firefighters.  

The American Red Cross DAT team was also notified of the fire so they can provide temporary assistance to the couple.  

Statesboro Fire Department Investigators will conduct a routine cause and origin investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
