Update | Friday, July 12 at 4:35pm: As Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) teams remain active at the Chatham Parkway bridge over Interstate 16, the reopening plan for all westbound interstate lanes is now expected the morning of Sunday, July 14. All westbound lanes closed yesterday afternoon after a bridge strike by a commercial vehicle transporting an excavator.

Chatham Parkway’s reopening above the interstate remains to be determined. Due to the beam damage sustained, traffic lanes will reduce to one lane in each direction when this milestone occurs. Overall, four total bridge beams and portions of the bridge deck will need future replacement and that timeline is not yet known.

The traveling public should avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Detour routes are posted and messaged for the duration of the closures.
