A dispute between roommates escalated into gunfire just after noon on March 6, 2025, leaving three people injured. According to the Statesboro Police Department (SPD), the shooting occurred in the 700 block of Georgia Avenue, with officers responding almost immediately.
The victims, identified as a 20-year-old female, a 26-year-old male, and a 43-year-old female, were transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where they are currently in stable condition. SPD confirmed that none of the victims are believed to be Georgia Southern University students.
The investigation revealed that the altercation stemmed from an ongoing dispute between roommates, which escalated as they gathered support from family and friends. What began as a physical fight quickly turned into a shooting, with multiple rounds fired. SPD detectives processed the scene, searching several vehicles and an apartment, ultimately recovering four firearms. Ballistic testing will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab.
At this time, two individuals are in police custody, and SPD officials say all parties involved have been accounted for, meaning there is no active threat to the community. Charges against some of the individuals involved are expected as the investigation progresses.
