States of Emergency have been declared by city and county ahead of winter storm

Both the city and county leadership have declared local states of emergency. See their statements below:

DECLARATION OF LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, in preparation for the impact of Winter Storm Enzo the City of Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia must make every effort to be prepared and protect the essential needs of the public;

WHEREAS, the National Weather Service forecasts a significant Arctic cold front to push into the Southeastern United States, bringing the potential for winter weather impacts to Georgia;

WHEREAS, Governor Bryan Kemp has declared a state of emergency for the entire State of Georgia;

WHEREAS, the Chair of the Bulloch County Commission has declared a state of emergency for Bulloch County;

WHEREAS, in the judgment of the Mayor of the City of Statesboro, with advice from the City Manager, there exist emergency circumstances located throughout the entire municipal limits of the City of Statesboro requiring extraordinary and immediate corrective actions for the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the City of Statesboro

; and WHEREAS, to prevent or minimize injury to people and damage to property resulting from this event, certain actions are required. NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me by local and state law;

IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that a local state of emergency exists and shall continue until the conditions requiring this declaration are abated.

THEREFORE, IT IS REQUESTED that City residents and visitors take all necessary measures to stay off roads for nonessential travel in the event of accumulation of snow and ice.

(1) That the City Manager shall execute any and all measures recommended by FEMA and GEMA that are deemed appropriate for the welfare of the citizens of Statesboro;

(2) That the following sections of the Code of Ordinances be implemented:

( ) Section 30-8 Authority to Waive Procedures and Fee Structures

( ) Section 30-9 Curfew and Closed or Restricted Areas as follows:

( ) Section 30-10 Price overcharging prohibited

(3) That said, the state of emergency shall expire at 5:00 P.M. on January 24, 20255, unless extended in compliance with City Code of Ordinances Section 30-3(c) ENTERED at 5:00 P.M. On January 20, 2025

DECLARATION OF LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, in preparation for the impact of Winter Storm Enzo forming from a low-pressure system in the Gulf Coast of the United States, the State of Georgia and Bulloch County must make every effort to be prepared and protect the essential needs of the public, and

WHEREAS, the National Weather Service forecasts a significant Arctic cold front to push into the southeastern United States, bringing the potential for winter weather impacts to Georgia

WHEREAS, due to the potential development of snow, ice, or freezing rain causing downed trees, power lines, and debris, Georgia's and Bulloch County's network of roads may be rendered impassable, isolating residences and persons from access to essential public services;

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me as Chairman of the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners by local and state law,

IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that a local state of emergency exists shall continue until 5:00 P.M. on Friday, January 24, 2025

THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED:

(1) That the Bulloch County Emergency Management Agency activates the Emergency Operations Plan;

(2) That the following sections of the Bulloch County Code of Ordinances be implemented:

Chapter 6, Article III: Prohibition Against Overcharging for Goods, Materials, Services, and Housing During a State of Emergency.
