Two innocent people traveling in a car on Zetterower Avenue in the City of Statesboro on Sunday, August 6, 2023 around 6:30 pm have been hospitalized after being struck by a car fleeing a road rage incident.

According to GSP Sergeant Robbie Scott a black sedan was traveling east on East Jones Avenue and was crossing the railroad tracks at East Jones near South Mulberry Street slowly.

A driver in a white GMC Acadia was traveling behind the black sedan and became inpatient.

The driver of the GMC pulled out to pass the sedan in a marked no passing zone. The driver in the black sedan increased speed. As the two vehicles approached the stop sign at Zetterower Ave, the driver of the black sedan stopped.

The driver of the GMC Acadia failed to stop and entered intersection where it struck a northbound Toyota Camry on the driver’s side.

Both vehicles then traveled east into a private lot where the Toyota Camry struck a power pole.

Statesboro Police, Bulloch County EMS and Statesboro Fire responded to the scene along with GSP.  Firefighters had to extricate one of the passengers of the Toyota Camry from the vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota were transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The driver remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The passenger was later transported by Bulloch County EMS to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah with serious injuries but is stable.

The driver and passenger of the GMC were not injured.

The driver of the black sedan was not involved in the crash.

The driver of the GMC was charged with too fast for conditions, failure to stop at a stop sign, passing in a no passing zone, and wrong side of the roadway.
