On Monday, Senator Billy Hickman (R–Statesboro) was appointed by Lt. Governor Burt Jones to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth.
“I am truly honored to have been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth by Lt. Governor Jones,” said Sen. Hickman. “As a long-time advocate for increasing childhood literacy rates in Georgia, I firmly believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed through access to quality education. Literacy is the cornerstone of learning, and I’m committed to advancing initiatives that ensure our students have the tools they need to thrive.”
Sen. Hickman added, “It is also a privilege to continue serving the people of the 4th Senate District for a third term. Over the years, I have prioritized legislation that addresses the needs of our rural communities, fosters economic growth and improves educational outcomes. I am eager to build on this foundation during the 2025 Session.”
Elected in 2021, Sen. Hickman represents the 4th Senate District, which includes Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, and Evans County as well as a small portion of Chatham County.
In addition to serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth, he also serves as a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, Secretary of the Senate Committee on Finance, and is an Ex-Officio member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military and Homeland Security.
