One dead, two critical, two hospitalized in a crash at Jones Mill and Veterans Memorial Parkway

One person has died in an accident in the City of Statesboro on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

Bulloch County Deputy Coroner Chuck Francis has identified the deceased driver as Shatasha Fields, 36 with a Statesboro address.

Bulloch County 911 dispatched Statesboro Police, Statesboro Fire, Bulloch County EMS and GSP to a serious two vehicle crash at Jones Mill road and the Veterans Memorial Parkway at 2:16 PM with entrapments.

The first Paramedic's on the scene requested multiple ambulances to the scene along with multiple helicopters.

According to GSP Sergeant Robbie Scott, the driver of a Nissan Versa was traveling west on Jones Mill Road and failed to yield at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway.  The Nissan Versa was struck by a Cadillac SUV that was traveling south on the Bypass.

The Cadillac struck the Nissan on the passenger side causing it to travel into the ditch. The Cadillac came to rest on the Parkway.

One child was ejected from the Nissan. A second child was trapped in the Nissan and was extracted by Statesboro Fire firefighters.

The driver of the Nissan succumbed to injuries at the scene.

Paramedics with Bulloch County EMS transported the ejected child from the Nissan to East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) in critical condition.

Paramedics transported the second entrapped child in the Nissan to EGRMC also in critical condition.

In a third ambulance paramedics transported the driver of the Cadillac and a child passenger to EGRMC in serious condition.

Two Air Evac Medical Helicopters landed at EGRMC and transported the two critical children to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.

Family notification has been made for all parties in the accident.

GSP is in charge of the investigation.
