Marvelous Moms is a group for moms of Bulloch County who would like to socialize their children and meet other moms in the process. They had a successful Chick-Fil-A morning meetup on June 13th, “Munchin’ With Mom,” where moms and their kids had a delicious breakfast followed by play time at the indoor play area. The ages of the children ranged from about six months old to ten years.
The idea for Marvelous Moms, which started in fall of 2022, came from Justin Smith who is responsible for many of the instructional programs the rec department offers. Meghan Judy, Program Supervisor at Bulloch County Recreation and Parks, took over Marvelous Moms in June. Judy coordinates this relatively new initiative, as well as oversees the after school program. She is committed to providing fun activities for the younger ages just as she does for the older children she serves in aftercare.
“We are trying to explore different things. I’m trying to poll and see what people want,” Judy says. “It's been fun and rewarding.”
While some activities may have a cost associated with them, the group is totally free to join. The group, which posts on the Bulloch Recreation and Parks website, also has a Facebook group moms can join to extend the bonds of community Marvelous Moms is creating.
Since the summer months are typically busy for everyone, Marvelous Moms has been limiting their events to one a month, but Judy’s goal is to have two to three events per month starting in September. Looking forward, she would like to incorporate evening activities to accommodate working moms, and offer childcare for a “Moms’ Night Out.”
The next Marvelous Moms event is on Tuesday, July 11th from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Mill Creek Park. There will be plenty of mamas and children there to meet and connect with. In addition to playing on the playground, there will be bubbles and chalk for kids to enjoy, as well as snacks to satisfy the appetite the little ones are sure to work up.
