‘The Fallen Soldier's table’ at Southern Manor: The tablecloth is white to represent the purity of each service member’s heart. A single red rose represents the loved ones of those missing, and a yellow ribbon tied around the vase conveys the hope that they will eventually return home. A single lemon slice conveys the bitterness of their fate, while a pinch of salt represents the uncertainty.

To all that serve, we give you our respect, honor, and gratitude. Thank you, Veterans!

Grice Connect extends a heartfelt shout-out to all of the brave Veterans in Bulloch County and the surrounding areas who are residing at home or at assisted/independent living residences.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States of America, called upon all citizens: "To observe November 11,1954 as ‘Veterans Day,' Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly on the seas, in the air and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom."

There were many celebrations, personalized activities, certificates of appreciation and ceremonies across Statesboro to recognize the men and women who served and their commitment to our Nation’s freedom. Their dedication, sacrifices, selfless service and courage are not to be forgotten.

Just to mention a few of the many worthy events of Veteran's Day 2024:

  • Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) provided coffee and donuts in the main gallery of the Averitt Center before the annual Veteran's Day program.
  • Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel) Nick Spletstoser served as the keynote speaker for the Averitt Center's annual Veteran's Day program as well as presenting certificates to Veterans at many of the area assisted living residences.
  • Bobby Godwin, Commander the American Legion Dexter Allen Post 90 affirmed: “Today is a celebration to honor America's veterans for our patriotism, love of country and continued willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good." The American Legion hosted a picnic lunch for all Veterans as well as their families and friends.
  • Kimberly (Kim) Brown, Activity Coordinator for the Lodge at Bethany shared, “Veteran’s Day is important. It's a day dedicated to showing our gratitude to all who served and showing our appreciation, letting them know they are valued.”
  • Sara Chandler, Life Enrichment Director at Willow Pond Senior Care said, “We take a moment to ensure that our resident Veterans (13 - ⅓ of our community population) know they are valued, honored and loved for their service. We made them feel like celebrities. They truly are for keeping our lives free and safe."
  • Barbara Eloi, Lifestyle Director for Southern Manor Senior Living shared, "Many of our residents have served or had a spouse or a very close family member that served in the military. They are part of a generation drafted and sent to war. It is a big part of their lives and WE are honored to take care of our Veterans."

Thank you for your selfless service. We Salute You! “Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.” -Author Unknown
